iroiro JAPAN eSIM

These Terms of Service (the "Terms") set out the conditions for using "iroiro" (the "Service"), a mobile data service for travelers visiting Japan. The Service is operated by ALVA Inc. ("ALVA"), and eSIMs are sold jointly by ALVA and VAULT LLC ("VAULT"). Please read these Terms carefully before using the Service.

This English text is a translation provided for convenience. The Japanese version is the authoritative text, and it prevails in the event of any inconsistency.

Article 1 (Scope)

  1. These Terms apply to all relationships between ALVA and VAULT (collectively, "we", "us" or "our") and users in connection with the Service.
  2. Plan descriptions, notices shown during checkout, the Privacy Policy, and the disclosure under the Act on Specified Commercial Transactions that we publish on the Service form part of these Terms.
  3. If these Terms conflict with any of those documents, these Terms prevail, except where a plan description expressly states different conditions, in which case the plan description prevails.

Article 2 (Definitions)

  1. "User" means any person who browses, purchases from, or otherwise uses the Service.
  2. "eSIM" means a digital SIM profile sold through the Service that can be used for mobile data in Japan.
  3. "Plan" means an eSIM product with defined data allowance, validity period, price, and other conditions.
  4. "Order" means a User's selection of a Plan on the Service and completion of payment.
  5. "Setup Page" means the page issued for each Order that displays the QR code, activation code, and installation instructions.
  6. "AI Support" means the automated assistant provided on the Service for eSIM compatibility, purchase, installation, activation, and connectivity issues.
  7. "Facility" means an accommodation provider or other business that partners with us and introduces the Service to its guests.

Article 3 (Operator and Seller)

  1. ALVA plans and operates the Service and provides AI Support.
  2. eSIM sales contracts are entered into with ALVA and VAULT as joint sellers. Payments are processed through a payment service (Stripe) held in VAULT's name. Your card statement may show VAULT or another descriptor designated by us.
  3. ALVA and VAULT are jointly and severally liable for the seller's obligations under these Terms. Users may make claims under these Terms against either company.

Article 4 (Accounts)

  1. Purchases can be made without registering an account. Where we offer it, you may sign in using your email address.
  2. Users must keep their registered information accurate and up to date and must not disclose sign-in links or verification codes to third parties.
  3. Any action taken using a User's sign-in method is deemed to be an action of that User.

Article 5 (Purchasing an eSIM)

  1. A User places an Order by selecting a Plan on the Service, entering the email address to which the eSIM should be delivered, and completing payment.
  2. The sales contract is formed when we confirm that payment has been completed. We begin issuing the eSIM promptly after payment.
  3. Before ordering, Users are responsible for confirming, using the device compatibility page we provide or otherwise, that their device supports eSIM and is unlocked.
  4. We may decline an Order, or cancel a sales contract that has already been formed, in the following cases. Any payment already received will be refunded.
    1. Payment is not authorized, or fraud is suspected.
    2. The eSIM cannot be issued due to supplier stock or availability.
    3. The Order is from a User who has previously breached these Terms.
    4. We otherwise reasonably determine that fulfilling the Order is inappropriate.

Article 6 (Prices and Payment)

  1. Plan prices are displayed on the Service in Japanese yen, inclusive of consumption tax.
  2. Payment is limited to credit cards and any other payment methods we indicate on the Service. Payment is charged at the time of the Order.
  3. Exchange rates, foreign transaction fees, and any fees set by your card issuer are borne by the User.
  4. We may change Plan prices at any time. New prices apply to Orders formed after the change and do not affect Orders already formed.

Article 7 (Delivery and Validity)

  1. After payment is completed, we send the QR code and a link to the Setup Page to the email address entered by the User. Delivery usually takes a few minutes, but may be delayed depending on the supplier.
  2. If a User does not receive the delivery email because of a mistyped address, blocking settings, spam filters, or similar causes, the User must contact us promptly. After verifying the Order, we will resend the existing eSIM.
  3. Each Plan's validity period and the point from which it starts (installation, or first use in Japan) are shown in the Plan description and on the Setup Page. An eSIM cannot be used after its validity period ends. In addition, each Plan limits how long an eSIM can be kept without being activated (that is, without ever connecting to a network in Japan), counted from the date of purchase (the "Activation Deadline"). The number of days or the date is shown in the Plan description, at checkout and on the Setup Page. An eSIM that has not connected in Japan for the first time by its Activation Deadline is retired by the supplier and can no longer be used, restored or reissued.
  4. As a rule, an eSIM can be installed only once on one device. If the profile is deleted after installation, it may not be possible to reinstall it.
  5. Users must not resell, transfer, or lend an eSIM to a third party.

Article 8 (Nature and Limitations of the Data Service)

  1. eSIMs are data-only. They cannot be used for voice calls, SMS, or emergency calls such as 110 or 119. In an emergency, use a hotel phone or a public payphone.
  2. Plans described as "unlimited" have a daily limit on high-speed data, after which speeds are reduced. Specific conditions are shown in the Plan description.
  3. Connectivity is provided through the networks of domestic and international carriers and eSIM suppliers we partner with. Speed, coverage, and stability vary by location, time, device, signal conditions, and network congestion, and we do not guarantee them.
  4. We or our suppliers may restrict or suspend service where necessary for network maintenance, to comply with law, or to protect public order or other users.
  5. Users must not use an eSIM for purposes that violate Japanese law, for bulk transmission, in ways that place excessive load on the network, or in any manner contrary to the supplier's terms.

Article 9 (Cancellation and Refunds)

  1. Because an eSIM is a digital product and issuance begins immediately after payment, cancellation and refunds at the User's convenience are not accepted, except in the following cases.
    1. The User requests cancellation after payment but before we have completed issuing the eSIM.
    2. The eSIM could not be issued, or the eSIM delivered was unusable from the outset, for reasons attributable to us.
    3. We otherwise determine that a refund is appropriate.
  2. The following are not eligible for refunds.
    1. The User's device does not support eSIM, is carrier-locked, or cannot be used because of incorrect device settings.
    2. The User deleted the profile after installation.
    3. Data allowance or validity period was not fully used.
    4. The eSIM was retired because it did not connect in Japan for the first time by its Activation Deadline.
    5. Dissatisfaction with speed or signal conditions at a specific location or time.
    6. Selection of the wrong Plan.
  3. Refunds are made to the payment method used for the Order. The timing of the refund depends on processing by the card issuer.
  4. Inquiries about refunds or connectivity problems must be sent from the email address used for the Order, to the contact details at the end of these Terms or as instructed on the Service. We decide how to respond after checking usage records with the supplier.

Article 9-2 (Purchaser Benefits)

  1. We provide the following benefits (the "Purchaser Benefits") at no additional charge to Users who purchase an eSIM. The Purchaser Benefits apply to every Order, including Orders placed through a Facility or from an advertisement.
    1. Connection guarantee: If the eSIM cannot be used for data in Japan on a device that supports eSIM and is carrier-unlocked, despite being set up as we instruct, and our support cannot resolve the problem, we refund the full price of the Order provided the User notifies us within 7 days of completing payment. We check the eSIM's usage against the supplier's records and may exclude from the guarantee an eSIM that has already transferred a substantial amount of data.
    2. Reissue: If the User loses, breaks or replaces their device during their trip, we reissue an eSIM of the same Plan once per Order, free of charge, provided the request is made while the original eSIM is within its validity period or before its Activation Deadline. The reissued eSIM is treated as a new eSIM: its validity period starts again from its first connection in Japan, and remaining days or data on the original eSIM are not carried over.
    3. Human support: Where AI Support does not resolve the issue, or the User asks for a person, our staff take over in the same chat. Staff respond in Japanese; translation to and from the User's language is performed by automatic translation. Support hours are shown on the Service.
    4. Call service: At the User's request, we place telephone calls in Japanese to numbers in Japan on the User's behalf for simple matters such as restaurant reservations, lost-property enquiries and delivery arrangements, and report the result to the User. The call service is limited to three (3) calls per Order and is provided during the hours shown on the Service. We do not place emergency calls, make payments, enter into or cancel contracts or perform other legal acts, handle medical, legal or administrative procedures or procedures requiring identity verification, or act on requests we consider inappropriate. The call service is a relay of communication only; we are not responsible for whether a reservation is made, or for the other party's response or conduct.
  2. The Purchaser Benefits do not change the exclusions from refunds in Article 9, paragraph 2, except that paragraph 1, item 1 of this Article prevails where its requirements are met.
  3. We may change or discontinue the Purchaser Benefits. Changes apply to Orders formed after the change.
  4. We may refuse to provide the Purchaser Benefits to a User who abuses or attempts to abuse them.

Article 10 (AI Support)

  1. AI Support automatically generates general guidance about eSIMs. We do not guarantee that its responses are accurate, complete, or current.
  2. AI Support cannot look up Orders, issue refunds, reissue eSIMs, or perform other individual actions. Please contact us directly for these matters.
  3. AI Support does not provide emergency response, medical, legal, or travel-arrangement advice.
  4. Users must not enter credit card numbers, passwords, or other confidential information into AI Support.
  5. We may store and use AI Support conversations for quality improvement, fraud prevention, and support, in accordance with the Privacy Policy.

Article 11 (Facility Referral Program)

  1. Facilities may introduce the Service to their guests through Facility-specific URLs or QR codes.
  2. Facilities are not sellers of the Service. Contracts for eSIMs are formed between us and the User. Facilities are not responsible for Orders or connectivity.
  3. To identify referrals through Facilities, we may use the cookies described in the Privacy Policy. We do not provide Facilities with personally identifiable information such as the User's name or email address.

Article 12 (Prohibited Conduct)

Users must not engage in any of the following when using the Service.

  1. Conduct that violates laws or public order and morals.
  2. Conduct that infringes the rights or interests of us, our suppliers, Facilities, other Users, or any third party.
  3. Registering false information, using another person's payment method without authorization, or any other fraudulent payment.
  4. Reselling, transferring, lending, or commercially redistributing an eSIM.
  5. Unauthorized access to, excessive load on, reverse engineering of, or automated bulk access to the Service's systems, networks, or AI Support.
  6. Manipulating AI Support to operate outside its intended scope, or causing it to generate harmful content.
  7. Reproducing, modifying, distributing, or publishing Service content without our permission.
  8. Any other conduct we reasonably determine to be inappropriate.

Article 13 (Intellectual Property)

  1. Intellectual property rights in the programs, designs, text, images, trademarks, logos, and other content that make up the Service belong to us or to third parties holding legitimate rights.
  2. Users may not use such content beyond the scope expressly permitted by these Terms.

Article 14 (Changes, Suspension, and Termination of the Service)

  1. We may change the content of the Service, Plan lineup, suppliers, supported devices, and other aspects without prior notice to Users.
  2. We may temporarily suspend all or part of the Service for system maintenance, outages, circumstances of carriers or suppliers, natural disasters, changes in law, or other unavoidable reasons.
  3. We may terminate the Service by giving reasonable advance notice on the Service. We will provide separate guidance regarding eSIMs still within their validity period at the time of termination.

Article 15 (Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability)

  1. We make no warranty regarding connection quality, speed, availability, operation on any particular device, or fitness for the User's purpose.
  2. We are not liable for damage caused by network failures of suppliers or carriers, device defects, User configuration errors, signal conditions, or other causes beyond our reasonable control.
  3. Where we are liable to a User for damages, except in cases of our willful misconduct or gross negligence, our liability is limited to the amount the User paid us for the Order that gave rise to the damage. We are not liable for lost profits, indirect damages, special damages, or incidental damages such as trip interruption or accommodation costs.
  4. This Article does not apply to the extent that our liability cannot be limited under the Consumer Contract Act or other mandatory law.

Article 16 (Personal Information)

We handle Users' personal information appropriately in accordance with our separately published Privacy Policy.

Article 17 (Changes to These Terms)

  1. In accordance with the Civil Code of Japan, we may amend these Terms where the amendment serves the general interest of Users, or where it is reasonable in light of the need for the amendment, the appropriateness of its content, and other circumstances.
  2. Amended Terms are published on the Service and take effect on the effective date stated at the time of publication. For material changes, we will give notice a reasonable period before the effective date.
  3. Use of the Service after an amendment constitutes acceptance of the amended Terms.

Article 18 (Notices and Contact)

  1. Notices from us to Users are given by email to the address used for the Order or by posting on the Service.
  2. Users may contact us at the following address.
  3. Users must keep the email address used for the Order valid.

Article 19 (Assignment)

  1. Users may not assign or pledge their position or rights and obligations under these Terms to a third party without our prior written consent.
  2. If we transfer the business relating to the Service to a third party, we may transfer our position, rights and obligations under these Terms, and User information to the transferee.

Article 20 (Severability)

If any provision of these Terms is held invalid or unenforceable under applicable law, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.

Article 21 (Governing Law and Jurisdiction)

  1. These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Japan.
  2. The Tokyo District Court has exclusive jurisdiction in the first instance over any dispute between us and a User relating to the Service. This does not exclude any statutory jurisdiction available to a User who is a consumer.

Article 22 (Language)

The Japanese version of these Terms is the authoritative text. Where we provide translations in English or other languages for reference, the Japanese text prevails in the event of any discrepancy.
